Hey is 31 July 2010!

The last day of July...

#1. Kuching Festival 2010 kicks off July 31

Just like the previous 2 years, I miss it once again. Actually there is not a big deal missing the opportunity of visiting the annual Kuching Festival, merely it reminds me of leaving home for 3 years time.

#2. Days are getting busier. Week 4 will start the day after tomorrow, meaning Test 1 & 2(Week 5 & 6) is just around the corner. After Week 7 &8, I will back to my lovely hometown for 2 weeks Raya break. Can't wait the day to come!

#3. Yesterday I went to The Gardens. I'm broke again because my one of my RM 50 notes  has gone just like that.  I spent RM 46.70 for a meal. Wondering why? where? how come? with who I spent the money? Is there any special occasion on it? Well, stay tune for my following post~

#4. My 5th semester

Guess what courses  I take and what kind of lecturer I confront  for this semester?

1. General Chemistry
Pretty funny huh only take general chemistry on my 5th sem? It was a long story though so I might as well skip it, due to the fact that I need to comply with my credit hours in order to graduate. kinda tough taking this because I have been 3 years lost contact with chemistry. Everything starts from the beginning and what I really hate is all the reports are written manualy by hand and I need to translate the manual from Malay to English!

2. Food Service Cost Control
The lecturer is the Dean of a Faculty from Universiti Tun Abdul Razak. He gives boring lecture and only lectures about main point in the end of lecture. On the beginning he will talk lots of ways becoming a Jutawan.

3. Food Service Systems & Operations
The lecturer of this course according to him is the friend of famous celebrities Chef Wan. His style is pretty similar of Chef Wan. He hates people address him as 'Sir' because he has the title Dr.

4.  Food Law
Just photocopy the latest Food Law & Regulations book. The tests are open book tests so I have to familiarize with the book.

5. Equipment Layout Design
I have AutoCad class every week because I need to use the software to draw the layout of a restaurant with the right dimension and angle. The lecturer of this course loves to say "Finally", "The last slide before I ended the class"  in the middle of the lecture to catch our attention.

6. Restaurant Management
I suppose to take this course on my last semester but due to some problems, I have to join seniors and take this course. This course requires much energy and time and is the sole reason that I am totally broke. We have to come out a business plan to open a restaurant and the proposal will be taken to a former CIMB financial consultant to evaluate whether  to give financial approval. We have to search for the most strategic location and check out the size of it and survey how many cars will pass by and drop by to dine in.

The 11th Malaysia International Food & Beverage Trade Fair, PWTC, KL

There is Food & Beverage Trade Fair held annually at KL. Only had the opportunity to visit the fair on the third year Uni life at UPM. Miss out the fair on my first and second year life at Selangor.

Found many Taiwan exhibitors as compared with other countries.

Interestingly found the Turkish ice-cream as well...

Here comes the free Roti John, freshly prepared on the spot!

The cook was cooking the egg batter.

Everyone was waiting the Roti John bread to be served. Your hand had to act fast to get the small slice of it. Usually, the tray with Roti John will disappear in less than 1 second upon serving!

Since we were public visitors, admission fee was RM 10 per person. The fair was held 22-24 July 2010. But 24 July was open to public visitors whereas 22-23 July was open to trade visitors only. RM 10 was worth paying since I ate so much freebies and  food samples at some booths. My lunch was settled with all the tiny portion of various foods and beverages.

Group photos at SODA, The Mall(opposite PWTC, first visit into it but nothing to shop out there)

Hi-Bread Kopitiam, Jalan Rumbia, Petanak, Kuching

Many types of sandwiches and burgers are available. May try it other time. Only bought some small buns to enjoy.

affordable and tempting different types of small buns are available all day long

Custard Bun RM0.80

Left Ham Roll RM1
Right Red Bean RM0.60

Left: Garlic RM0.60
Right: Kaya Cheese RM0.80

Comments: Average rating. Nothing special for all the takeaway tiny buns that I bought. Wanted to buy the Butter Polo Bun but it can only be found on certain period of the day. A good place to dine for a light meal if fed up with heavy foods.

Kenny Roger Roasters, The Mines, Selangor

Went to Kenny Roger Roaster at The Mines for lunch

of course I opted for Kenny's Chicken Meal
(Rotisserie-roasted to perfection with a unique blend of herbs, spices and citrus, served with Kenny very own signature sauce.)
Quarter Meal :Roasted ¼ orginal chicken with 3 side dishes & 1 Kenny’s Home-made Muffin. RM 15.90 (before gov & service tax)

there are plenty of side dishes to choose from

there are vanilla, chocolate and banana muffins to choose. I asked the waitress for suggestion and she recommended vanilla muffins.

vanilla muffin. nice and fluffy but if reduce the sugar content then it would be better for my taste buds.

here comes my meal...

I can choose 3 side dishes so I opted for veggies, fruits and starchy selections each . health conscious huh?

(Fresh tomato, capsicum, cucumber & onion in Kenny's very own “TCO” Dressing with parsley flakes.)

(A medley of fresh mouth-watering fruits.)

(Steamed potato wedges in aromatic garlic butter & parsley flakes. )

some other orderings

3 side dishes: Fresh Fruit Salad, Aromatic Rice (Seasoned rice enlivened with onion, carrot & capsicum.), Potato Salad (Potato wedges, sweet relish, onion & capsicum with a hint of mustard)

Comments: Maybe I was too hungry at that time so the meal did not satisfied my hunger. The chicken and side dishes portion was  small. The chicken meat was  dry and not succulent. It was my first visit to Kenny Roger because I heard that the chicken meat was not as good as Nando's.  Now I do agree with the rumours after I tried both outlets at The Mines. My previous dining experience with Nando's was rather superb compare with Kenny's.

Top 10 must Do Things in Kuantan

Kuantan is the capital of Pahang situated near the mouth of Kuantan River. Kuantan is famous for the local product like “batik”, “prawn crackers” and also “salted fish”.
If anyone ever said that, Kuantan is boring and a place to stay in the room, THAT IS WRONG!

Kuantan
(Clockwise from top): Telok Chempedak, East Coast Mall, Lao Zi Temple, Terminal Zul Satay
Here are some recommendations you must not miss out when you visit Kuantan: -
Number 10
Shop at East Coast Mall
East Coast Mall is the biggest shopping mall in Kuantan. It just started to operate not long ago and it is a retreat for the locals on the weekends. The mall has got brands that could not be found at other shopping malls in Kuantan like Big Apple and Donuts and Starbucks.

Yaya, I have been there. The mall is similar to The Spring Mall at Kuching, not too big though. Watched Flirting Scholar 2 at GSC there.

Number 9
Eat Satay at Restoran Zul
Restoran Zul serves the best satay in town and only operates at night. If you want to give it a try, make sure you are there early as it is always full house. The specialty of this restaurant is the “kuah” or also called the satay sauce.

Had full dinner every night I was at Kuantan so didn't get the chance to try the satay.

Number 8
Dine at Restoran Hoi Yin
Restoran Hoi Yin is located at the stretch of shop houses near Telok Chempedak. According to the locals, the curry mee served here is the best and it is finger licking good. Be an early bird or else, wave goodbye to it.

It is true early bird catches the worm. Woke out late every morning so didn't got the opportunity to try the curry mee. I prefer curry with rice.

Number 7
Drink Coffee at Kemaman Kopitiam
Kemaman Kopitiam is one of the place where youngsters love to hang out. “Nasi Lemak” and “Kopi Ais” is a must to order upon visit.

There are a few Kemaman Kopitiam at Kuantan. Didn't get to step in the kopitiam either.

Number 6
Take a River Cruise
River Cruise service is available at the Kuantan River. The sight-seeing journey takes about 2 hours and the passengers get a chance to visit the mangrove swamp. The cruise costs RM 10 for adult and RM 5 for the children below 12.

Didn't go there too.

Number 5
Check Out Sungai Lembing Museum
Sungai Lembing Museum is the place of remembering the glory day of Sungai Lembing as the richest town. But as time passed, the tins are being replaced with plastic, aluminium and others. In the museum, there are equipments used for mining, tracks to go into the mines, offices environment and many more.

Interesting museum. Sungai Lembing was once the 'pengeluar bijih timah'. Tin ores.

Walked across the Jambatan Gantung too at Sungai Lembing.

Number 4
Drop by Charah Cave
Charah Cave is a limestone cave which is well-known for its ‘Sleeping Buddha’, an impressive stone sculpture of the reclining Buddha. According to the locals, the ‘Sleeping Buddha’ looks the best, when the sun shines in at 11 o’clock in the morning.

Didn't go there.

Number 3
Visit Lao Zi Temple
Lao Zi Temple is located on the Sungai Lembing-Kuantan way. The Golden Dragon structured is the longest man-made dragon in the world with 2,700 feet. There is a walkway that begins from the Dragon’s tail and ends at the head. People believed that after walking through, good luck and fortune will be rushing in.

Didn't go there.

Number 2
Wind Surf at Balok Beach
Balok Beach, which is located 15km to the north of Kuantan, is a great place for wind surfing. If you are lucky enough, you could probably see turtles laying eggs between the month of May and September.

 Seen sea turtles there.

Number 1
Visit Telok Chempedak
Telok Chempedak is one of the most popular beaches in Kuantan — without it, the trip is not complete! It is crowded especially during the night! A great place for family and friends to hang out and enjoy the sea breeze. And also, here has got the one and only McDonald’s in Kuantan.
Does it lure you to Kuantan now? Make a move and experience Kuantan!

Been there too. Nice and long beach. Tourists attraction. But it has the only drive-thru McD there, not only McD in Kuantan.

##Went also the mini zoo Taman Keruntum.

### Tried the best tom yam handmade mee

the tom yam gravy was absolutely nice but i couldn't stand it because it was too spicy

#2: Stuffed crab, Kemaman

Went to Kemaman, Terengganu
Come across the Restoran Tong Juan which is famous of the stuffed crab

crab on plate

crab outside down

the outer layer of the stuffed crab is egg. they wrap the filling on the crab and fry the stuffed crab with egg batter before serving

the empty crab after i finished it
heard that they reuse the crab. so not hygienic, just like the satay celup at Malacca, the kuah is recycled...
Restoran Tong Juan is located at main riverfront area of Cukai at Jalan Sulaimani.
The restaurant serves one of their exclusive famous dishes  Stuffed Crab

唐伯虎点秋香2 The Flirting Scholar 2

Went to Golden Screen Cinema East Coast Mall to watch The Flirting Scholar 2 since my Kuantan friend had 5 free tickets. Went to watch with her family.

Regular size Popcorn RM5.30 since Small was run out of stock.
Couln't finish it and got sore throat when I got up this morning. Probably I ate too much.

Kinda disappointed with Zhang Jing Zhu. I think she is not suitable into classic appearance. In the movie, her cosmetics applied was a bit odd, maybe it was only light cosmetics.

Overall the movie is ok. Nothing remarkable to shout out.

The days where I landed KL & Kuantan

#Day 1: Around KL

Traveling to KL alone again. This time I took a new path, KLIA transit from LCCT to Bandar tasik Selatan. I boarded the KLIA transit bus from LCCT to Salak Tinggi. Then, I took the KLIA transit train to Bandar Tasik Selatan. Good thing is the train is on time according to the preset schedule. It costs me RM 10.80 from LCCT to Bandar Tasik Selatan.

The seats on KLIA Transit are cute. Maybe it was my first ride on it. There are many empty seats on the train. At least I need not wait, rush and push with people using KLIA Transit( the other way round if KTM is used)

Upon reaching Bandar Tasik Selatan, I took a taxi to Angkasa Condo looking out for my friend who studys nursing in UCSI. I tumpang sleeping at her condo for a night.

Had a late dinner with her at a cafe outside the Angkasa Condo. The street is so fully crowded with UCSI students.I ate Fusion Spaghetti (RM5). Yummy but it would be certainly better if the cook substitute the hotdogs with something else because I don't fancy hotdogs~

#Day 2: KL-Kuantan

Have Bak Zhang as breakfast which I brought far away from Kuching to KL. Treated the rest Bak Zhang to my friend and her housemates. Then I headed to UCSI for free shuttle bus to LRT station. Taking the LRT at Bandar Tasik Selatan to Titiwangsa, I actually took the wrong train which headed to Sri Petaling. I stopped at the next station at Sungai Besi, and took another train back to Bandar Tasik Selatan again, then waited for the LRT to Sentul Timur.

Upon reaching Titiwangsa station, I followed the crowd to the terminal bus station. I never venture out alone so I have to followed the way other people go. I approached the Konsortium bus company. I saw their bus schedule:11.30am, 4.00pm to Kuantan. Oh no,it was 11.40am that time. The 11.30am bus had departed.
My first thought "Don't tell me I have to wait until 4pm for the next bus to Kuantan? Ridiculous!"

Then I found out the Plusliner company got frequent bus headed to Kuantan almost every hour. Bought 12.30pm bus ticket at RM 22.

Thanks God, I'm currently safe at Kuantan now, staying at my friend's house.

Also managed to buy the bus ticket from Kuantan to Titiwangsa this coming Saturday. Staying at my friend's there at Angkasa Condo again for a night before I go back UPM on Sunday.

Went to East Coast Mall & Teluk Cempadak Beach just now. Also had a sumptuos dinner with my friend's family.

I'm not a typical adventurous girl. Since I got my first choice to UPM last 2 years, I have been 'forced' to be more independent and adventurous, not mentioning being get used to act brave and alone every time although until now I'm very regret choosing UPM but not UNIMAS.
